ASSESSING NEEDS
Basic purpose of needs assessment
Purpose of course: After going questionnaires interviewing thee target learners, these are summary of assessing needs

Learners’ abilities:
Attitudes Preferences before Course


1.       Who the learner are: nursing students in the second and fourth semester.
  •     Ages              : 18 – 19 years old
  •   Gender        : male and female
  •   Profession  : students of nurse 
2.       The learners’  level of language proficiency
      Overall they got 6 – 8 each learners have different level of proficiency, but some of them are 
      good in listening and speaking skill, but the rest skill they are 50-50.

3.       The learners’ level of intercultural competence
       Overall they got 6 – 7, level of understanding is 50 – 50, because they are rarely to use it,
        in daily. 

4.       Their interests
       Topic             : Music, sport and health

5.       Their learning preference
       Most of them like group discussion

6.       Their attitudes
       They are eager to learn language; they have a lot of enthusiastic.

Information about what the learner need to learn, want to change.
7.       The learners’ (or others’ involved) goals and expectations
  •    Why do they taking the course? To improve their English
  •     What are they goals? Speak English well
  •       What do they expect to learn? Everything which can support their English
8.       The target contexts: situations, topics, 4 contents.
  •   Situation at international hospital
  •   Who will they use English with? Patients, doctor and people
  •   What topic will they need? Health, hospital and nursery.
9.       Types of communicative skills they need and task them will perform.
       Purpose of using language: interact to people, including interactions, providing giving 
       information  and understanding giving directions.

10.   Language modalities they will use
       They need to improve their speaking, reading, listening and writing in English.
